- How do you utilize AI-assisted tooling in your build process, and does that affect your timeline or price?
- What still gets a human review before it ships?
- Can we start with the smallest version that solves the actual bottleneck, rather than the full spec?
You don’t need a flawless brief before initiating a conversation. Quicker iteration cycles now make it reasonable to start with a basic idea, see an early version, and refine from there, rather than spending weeks perfecting the specification before anyone writes a line of code. The same practical, low-effort approach to AI adoption that works well for the rest of your business also applies to how you scope a build.
The math, honestly
AI hasn’t rendered good software free, and it shouldn’t be pitched to you that way. What it has achieved is making thoughtful, properly engineered custom software feasible for issues that used to be too minor to warrant the expense. If there’s a process in your business maintained with spreadsheets and earnest efforts, it’s worth a discussion now, not a “someday” list item.
